Powerful in Pink: Melissa From Stylinwithd

She is a breast cancer survivor, mother of two, and an all around bada**!

2. Tell us a bit about yourself? How did you get to where you are today?

When I was going through my breast cancer journey I was looking for inspiration. I had always been a very active and fit person and I was anxious that my entire way of life was going to change. Although I was lucky to find my cancer at an early stage—I needed an immediate mastectomy due to my BRCA1 status. Not a day went by that I didn’t think about the possibility that not every cancer cell was contained and how that would affect my young family. But I was resolved that nothing was going to change. I was back in the gym as soon as my surgical drains were removed from my arm pits. I looked to social media to find like-minded women who faced much more arduous battles than mine. I looked for women whose tenacity I respected and admired. I found a community of women who when supporting each other… made amazing things happen.

3. What is one of the most important lessons you have learnt through your health battle and scare

The most important lessons I learned through my health battle are “You are stronger than you know” and “You are not alone”. I’m a big fan of paying it forward. The small kindnesses I received during my journey are something I will never forget. It always makes me feel amazing when someone reaches out to me on social media and I can either be some form of comfort or put them in contact with someone in a similar circumstance.

4. What daily habits keep you productive?

I start every morning with a great pair of tights, coffee and a green smoothie. I find beautiful exercise gear motivating, italian expresso invigorating and a green smoothie keeps me on track for the rest of the day.

5. Why is health and fitness a priority for you?

I credit my fit lifestyle for helping me bounce back from 4 major surgeries very quickly.

6. Finally, At Vie Active we celebrate the notion of being FLAWSOME, realising that we can’t always be perfect and that our imperfectness is what makes us who we are – what makes you FLAWSOME?

Ha! That’s easy. I like to say there are only 2 fake things about me… and they make me FLAWSOME!
