How To: Do the Perfect Lunge
Posted on 23 July 2015
Lunges are a fantastic exercise to strengthen your glutes, thighs and core, however it's important to learn how to do them correctly so that you don't put unwanted strain on your joints. Our Ambassador Vibeke shares her top tips on how to master the perfect lunge.
- As you step forward into the lunge it is important to keep your body upright (not leaning forward), shoulders relaxed, core engaged and to stare straight ahead .
- Your front knee must remain above the ankle joint and the back knee should not touch the ground. It's important to keep you weight through the heel of the leg lunging forward as this will help to engage your glutes.
- If you do experience knee strain when doing lunges perhaps try reducing the stride of the lunge or trying to do a reverse lunge (you step back instead of forward ).
