A Day in the life of Body By Simone Instructor - Erica Hood

After our latest campaign shoot we had the pleasure of sitting down with one of our favourite Body By Simone Instructors - Erica Hood. Erica is a total fitspiration and teaches a killer class if you happen to be in Hollywood - definitely book in a session! We asked her about her workouts, how she stays healthy and more!

  • Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you become a trainer?
    I grew up in Texas where I started dancing at the age of 3, so I've always been a mover & shaker.  I fell in love with dance and eventually moved out to the west coast where I double majored at California State University Long Beach and received my B.A. in Dance and B.S. in Business Marketing.  After college is when I started dedicating myself to a healthier lifestyle. I had danced my entire life but wasn't necessarily taking care of my body the way I should be. That's when I got more involved with fitness. I first found dance related workouts (barre classes) that I loved and began teaching. The dance element always made it more enjoyable & fun for me!  I started to become so inspired by seeing clients’ progress with their health and the changes taking place in their bodies… knowing that I was a key aiding factor in their success is when I decided to become a trainer.  I am an AFAA certified personal trainer.  I currently teach at Cardio Barre Eagle Rock and Body By Simone in West Hollywood. I love sharing my passion with others to help make a difference in their lives.
  • How does Health and Fitness make you feel invincible?
    Nothing better than feeling good from the inside out!  Your body is a machine and in order for it to function at the top of its game you must be careful what you put in it and keep up proper maintenance.  Health and fitness make me feel energized & strong.  Nothing beats a sweaty workout session and a power protein shake to make you feel ready to take on anything the day throws at you.
  • What's your active life mantra?
    Create a vision that makes you want to get out of bed in the morning.  Go get it!! 
  • What makes you Flawsome?
    Being true myself.  I stay true to my beliefs/morals and am confident in my decisions and choices in life, no regrets.  It is then when I am at peace with myself that I am most happy.  When I’m happy I can then do my part to spread that joy to others and be flawsome in my own life.
  • How do you usually workout?
    I teach a lot at BBS and Simone's method is designed so that the trainer does the workout with the clients. Lucky for me I get my workouts in while I'm at work.  My favorite part of the workout is definitely cardio & abs.  Even when I'm not teaching you can still find me up at BBS taking class from my fellow trainers too, that's how much I love the workout.  When I’m not in the studio, I enjoy hikes all around LA.
  • What is your go to healthy meal?
    Sonoran Winter Bowl from Veggie Grill - Spiced and fire-roasted carrots, seasoned black beans, avocado chunks, tomato corn salsa, jalapeños, tortilla strips, roasted red pepper sauce, stacked on quinoa pilaf with dried grapes + almonds
  • How do you make sure you are feeling fit and flawsome before a photoshoot?
    Get a good night’s sleep!
  • What three things are on your bucket list?
  • 1) Travel all around the world with my husband!
  • 2) Run a marathon
  • 3) Make a difference in someone else’s life
  • Can you share a workout that makes you feel Invincible?
    Taking the Dance Cardio or Full Body class at Body by Simone.  If you haven’t been to the studio yet, you need to RUN to class – you’re booty will get kicked but it will thank you for it later ;-)
