5 Healthy Practices to start this weekend
Posted on 28 April 2015
While for some weekends can be a chance to have a 'cheat day' or take a break from your healthy self, we think that you should use your weekend to explore new healthy habits that make living an active life healthier and more fun!
Here are five practices we believe you should start this weekend and continue on weekends to come:
1. Make time for a Stretch Session
We are all guilty of not stretching enough! And even if you get to yoga more than several times a week you probably aren't holding the stretch statically for as long as you need to get the recovery benefits and benefits for your joints. And trust us, stretching is very important and can be the key to having more energy, getting results faster and of course being more flexible.
We recommend stretching for 2 minutes twice over. Focus on your glutes, hamstrings, quads, and calves as these always get a lot of work during the week and then add in any other stretches you think are relevant to where you're feeling it.
Then finish up with a foam roller session.
Fit tip - to get more flexible, long-term you need to do some serious stretching. 3-5 times a day, 3-5 times a week for 3-5 minutes.
2. Try Something New
We know that weekends are usually recovery days - but we want to challenge that! When else during the week do you have the entire day to choose when you exercise - 10am, 11am - exercising on the weekends is one of our favourite things to do! We recommend picking another day during the week as your rest day and getting active on the weekend.
Not only that but we love to try new things on the weekend. It is easy to get stuck in a workout rut and do what you know until is becomes boring or you lose results. Constantly challenge your body by using the weekends to find new exercises to love - Pilates, Aerial Yoga, Boxing- there's a world of choice out there!
3. Snack Prep
We are guilty of needing a 3pm sweet fix, it's just something we can't shake! But we always like to make sure we have healthy snacks on hand.
The weekend is a great time to get prepared and have healthy snacks on hand. We love whipping up bliss balls, savoury muffins and prepping your smoothie ingredients in the freezer so we always have something healthy to grab.
4. Start a Veggie Patch
There is nothing better than making a green smoothie with home grown greens, not to mention they look fresh and healthy around the house. Start your own veggie patch this weekend and enjoy for weekends to come.
5. Share a healthy meal
Sharing a meal is one of the best ways to share experiences, foster friendships and instill healthy habits onto one another - especially if it's a healthy meal. We love taking our friends who are a bit sceptical of our quinoa eating, green smoothie drinking ways out for a healthy meal and hopefully get them to start some healthy habits too.
We hope you enjoyed these! Have a happy and healthy weekend x
