Pantry Essentials for Raw Desserts by Raw Mix Sydney

There's nothing more fun or delicious than whipping up some raw treats when you have time - we're a big fan of raw caramel slice, bliss balls and raw bounty bars just to name a few. But having everything you need can be a challenge. I know I'm constantly running to the shops for almond meal or cacao.
So we asked Raw Desserts expert Brea (read her interview here), from Raw Mix Syd (check out their mixes - they make raw desserts even easier) to share the 10 ingredients she always has in her pantry for raw treats.
  • BREA'S TOP 10
  • Coconut Oil curbs sugar cravings and energy slumps. Its high smoke point means it can be cooked at super hot temperatures, which is great for frying chicken or roasting vegetables. It is also the only liquid ingredient added to 4 of the 5 mixes. 
  • Nuts of all shapes and sizes are not only the essential ingredient in most of my mixes, they are also inspiration for future creations, and my go-to snack! 
  • Raw Cacao is not your average cocoa powder. Raw cacao is made by cold-pressing unroasted cocoa beans to remove the fat without killing the living enzymes. It has loads of minerals and antioxidants and is a natural mood booster. It's also the star ingredient in the Hutchinson (choc nut) and Crown (nut-free choc) mixes.   • Chia are tiny seeds are a rich source of omega-3 fats. If you soak chia seeds in water, they expand multiple times and help you feel full for longer. I combine chia seeds and coconut milk for a delicious breakfast or dessert pudding.
  • Quinoa is a high protein, gluten free grain which is a great substitute for cereal and rice. I love it warmed with coconut milk for breakfast, mixed with salad or tuna at lunch, and with steamed vegetables and fried chicken for dinner. The puffed variety also makes the Fitzroy (ginger) mix pop!
  • Brown Rice Syrup is a fructose free alternative to honey and sugar. I drizzle it over a batch of home-made granola before baking, and add it to the treats for extra sweetness.
  • Goji berries have the highest concentration of protein of any fruit and are loaded with vitamin C, iron and fibre. They steal the show in the Bourke (brekky) mix.
  • Lemon Juice packs a zesty punch when added to the Albion mix, and when mixed with melted butter, is a tasty dressing on freshly baked salmon and steamed greens. 
  • Medjool Dates are incredibly sweet, moist and a cornerstone in most raw treats. I use dates in each of the mixes - you can't beat that luscious caramel flavour!
  • Brown Rice Flour is a handy gluten free alternative to wheat flour. I use it as a batter on chicken and white fish, and when making pancakes and other baked goodies.
