Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you become a yoga teacher?
My mom introduced me to yoga about a year and a half ago. I then started traveling a lot for work and yoga was the only thing that kept me sane- whether it was going to a class in a new city or doing it by myself in my hotel room. Every time I came to LA, I would go to my favorite yoga studio- The Yoga Collective in Venice, and they became like family to me. I started filming for them for their online series, and then they mentioned to me that they had a teacher training coming up with Lauren and Travis and were wondering if I was interested. It happened to be perfect timing as I had just moved to Santa Monica, so I said Why not!? At first I thought I was just going to take it to enhance my practice, but the more I learnt about the practice of yoga, the more I wanted to share it with others, and teach others what I have been so lucky to learn and apply to my own life. What’s your active life mantra?
My active life mantra is that life is not happening “to me,” it’s happening for me. I try to let every situation unfold as they should, and to not try and to change or judge them. Also to not force solutions onto problems, and to find gratitude in areas I normally wouldn’t.
What has your biggest take away from working in the health and fitness industry been?
I think the biggest take away is that everyone deserves to be good to themselves and everyone has the power to do so whether they realize it or not. Often we treat other people better than we treat ourselves, and for what reason? I think it is more important to treat yourself the best you can and to love yourself and then treat others how you treat yourself, not vice versa.
Besides yoga, how do you usually workout?
I love going for long runs on the beach or hiking in nature.
Who is your biggest healthy living hero?
My healthy living hero is my mom! She is extremely active, always on the go and has taught me the importance of eating healthy and staying fit. She also has taught me to meditate and introduced me to yoga.
