CAT ROSE: A NOTE ON SELF LOVE
Posted on 11 February 2015
What does Self Love mean to you?
Simply put, Self Love or, as I like to call it, Loving Thyself - means loving the skin you're in! Appreciating yourself, your individuality, your uniqueness from the inside out, imperfections and all.
I think Self Love is a fundamental component of happiness. Having the confidence to do things and make decisions for YOU rather than to please or impress others; building a life that makes YOU happy rather than waiting for someone else to come along and create that happiness for you. In a nutshell: if you don't make yourself your number one priority, chances are no one else will!
Have you always loved your body, how did you learn to love your body?
Like everything in life, my body and my perception of it has had ups and downs! However as my body and I have gotten older, I've seen what it's capable of – trekking up a mountain, running long distances, recovering from injury, bringing new life in to the world - just to name a few. All of which are pretty darn incredible and I have gained some serious respect and appreciation for my body as a result. I've learnt that if I love, listen to and look after my body, it will return the favour!
When you're having a bad day, feeling bloated or feeling like you’re missing your glow - how do you get back on track?
We all have those days! My tactic is to start from the inside out. First off, I'll make myself a supercharged drink (kale, beetroot, avocado, coconut water, plant-based protein powder and cinammon). Delicious, high in protein, good fats, packed full of vitamins yet low in sugar to avoid setting up for a blood sugar crash later on. Then I'll go on an endorphin mission. Endorphins are incredible for delivering an instant boost of positive energy and something as simple as a power walk gets them going. And I absolutely MUST have rocking tunes – just hearing an awesome track will have me smiling, moving with more intention and purpose….oh hello good mood!
Have your feeling of Self Love changed after becoming a mother?
Yes and no…..there have been SO many changes inside and out, both during pregnancy and after having a baby! As a first time mother, I thought that my baby should always come first, however I've subsequently learnt that I still need to look after myself and make myself a priority – within reason of course. Ultimately If I'm not happy, my son senses it and he's not happy either.
Do you have a favorite thing you do to pamper yourself?
Definitely, a couple of favourite things actually! Rule number one for a pampering session is to take a break from the outside world and all the white noise so the phone, laptop and iPad are temporarily powered off. For pampering at home, I'll get stuck into a leisurely bath with a good book (no magazines!) and all the trimmings (candles, bath oil, chillout music) followed by early to bed for a blissful night's sleep. Otherwise if I'm going all out and really treating myself, it's hard to beat a spa treatment – I go weak at the knees for facials and massages. Heaven on a stick!
When or where do you feel most happy?
When I'm in the wilderness, dwarfed by Mother Nature, huge skies and surrounded by my favourite people – whether it be family or friends.
What's your favourite thing about your body?
Its ability to connect with my mind yet consistently surprise me by doing more than I think it's capable of!
