Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you get into living a fit and healthy life?
I started dancing at the age of 3 so I've always been a hyper active mover & shaker. I continued dancing throughout all of grade school and even got my B.A. in dance at CSULB. After college is when I started dedicating myself to a healthy lifestyle. I had danced my entire life but wasn't necessarily taking care of my body the way I should be. That's when I got more involved with fitness. I found dance related workouts that I loved and began teaching. The dance element always made it more enjoyable & fun for me! I get to share my #1 passion with others while incorporating fitness which is super cool.
You work at Body by Simone - can you tell us a bit about the classes you teach there?
The classes at Body by Simone are killer, sweaty & most of all FUN! Simone's signature Dance Cardio class keeps you dancing for the full hour. You get to learn choreography that is set to an upbeat playlist and toward the end of class you finish with arms & abs. The energy that fills the room is unlike any other while everyone is grooving together which is why Dance Cardio is my favorite class to teach. We also have Full Body (all the best of BBS) which is an interval style training incorporating arms, legs, core with cardio spurts in between. There is a Hips, Thighs & Buns class, Upper body class and Trampoline class(because who doesn't like to jump around?). And if all this wasn't enough, we also do personal training. At BBS we have so much to offer and there is so much to love!
What is your definition of being healthy?
Living an active lifestyle. Doing something good for your body no matter how little or how much time you have in your day - squeezing in a walk or taking a dance class. Finding your "me" time. You only have 1 body in this lifetime and it's so important to take care of it. Try not to let your other work & responsibilities consume you, set aside time to stretch or meditate when you have a break. Take action & feel better.
What's your active life mantra?
Create a vision that makes you want to get out of bed in the morning. Go get it!!
What does a typical workout look like for you?
I teach a lot at BBS and Simone's method is designed so that the trainer does the workout with the client. Lucky for me I get my workouts in while I'm at work. My favorite part of the workout is definitely cardio & abs. Even when I'm not teaching you can still find me up at BBS taking class from my fellow trainers too, that's how much I love the workout.
How do you fuel up after an intense workout?
Protein! Within an hour after my workout I make sure to have Protein. I like having the protein snack pack from My Fit Foods which has a hardboiled egg, chicken, carrots and hummus.
What are your favorite healthy cafes or hangout spots in LA?
Tender Greens, Veggie Grill and Cafe Gratitude
Which of your Vie Active pieces do you love the most and why?
I love my Rockell Compression Tights! I'm super big on functionality and comfort fit when it comes to my workout clothes. Vie Active got it so right with these tights! I can get my super intense workout on while the tights help hold everything in place, I never have to fidget with them and I look super cool with all their fashion forward prints.
What's on your Vie Active wish list?
I'm leopard OBSESSED. Noa has really good taste in print ;-) I want one of everything leopard, that's what’s on my wish list. I'd be more than willing to clear out room in my closet to take on all the leopard pieces that Vie Active carries. They even have specially designed leopard surfboards in their Venice store. I might be inspired to take up surfing too.
It's coming up to the holiday season, what are your tips for staying active and healthy over the holidays?
Set up a fun challenge for yourself. Ex: If I take 20 classes in the month of December I'll buy myself that NYE dress I've had my eye on. Make it a game. Create a challenge with a friend. It's always better when you have a buddy to motivate you. And when it comes to food for the holidays (which there's nothing I love more than all that yummy goodness), implement portion control. Seriously no need to deprive yourself of foods you love. It's all about moderation. I get to enjoy what I love just in smaller portions.
Can you share a quick workout with us?
- Sprint intervals (run full speed for 60 seconds then walk for 60 seconds) do this for 20 minutes
- 20 lunges (set of R & L equals 1 lunge)
- 20 Burpee’s
- 20 second planks (rest in between repeat 5x)
- 20 sit ups
- 20 reverse crunches
- 20 bicycles
- 20 push ups
- Finish forearm plank. Hold for as long as you can
What are your favourite healthy snacks?
Avocado on toast, celery & peanut butter, kale, red grapes & strawberries
What's in your favourite green smoothie?
How you do relax/what's your favorite thing to do when you’re not working out?
Spending time with my husband. He's the light of my life. We love to go on hikes, spend time on the beach & relax at home watching Netflix shows.
Welcome to #teamvieactive Erica, we love having you on board.
